The city of Odesa was rocked by a series of explosions on Friday, March 15th, as occupants launched ballistic missiles from the temporarily occupied Crimea.
At 11:04, the Air Force warned of missile movement towards Odesa.
Later, Oleg Kiper, head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, confirmed casualties resulting from the Russian missile attack. Rescue operations are ongoing with details being updated.
Updated information reveals that casualties include a paramedic and a State Emergency Service employee who arrived to aid the injured after the initial explosion.
"Among the casualties are severely injured medics and rescuers. The exact number of casualties is being clarified, and all necessary medical assistance is being provided," Kiper stated.
Impact on Odesa: 20 Injured, Including 5 Rescuers, 1 Fatality
In Odesa, 20 people have been injured as a result of the missile strike, including five employees of the State Emergency Service, according to the State Emergency Service.
It was reported that a rescuer was killed as a result of the missile strike. All injured individuals are receiving medical assistance.
Rescuers reported that the rocket strike also damaged 10 private houses, a service station, a low-pressure gas pipeline, and two firefighting vehicles.
Efforts are currently underway to extinguish the gas pipeline and private house fire covering an area of 120 square meters. 50 rescuers and eight units of Emergency Service equipment are on-site.
Odesa: Increase in Casualties and Injuries; Day of Mourning to be Declared Tomorrow
Due to the massive attack on Odesa on March 15th, 14 people have died, and 46 others have been injured. March 16th has been declared a day of mourning in the city.
According to Odesa Regional Military Administration chief Oleg Kiper, "14 people, including locals, a medic, and a rescuer, died as a result of the Russian missile attack." Additionally, 46 individuals, including seven State Emergency Service employees, sustained injuries.
"All necessary assistance is being provided to the injured. All relevant services are eliminating the consequences of the enemy's attack. Law enforcement is documenting yet another crime by the Russians. Tomorrow, a day of mourning will be declared in Odesa and the region," Kiper added.
Russian forces launched a massive missile strike on Odesa closer to noon on March 15th, resulting in explosions in the city. Air forces warned of missile launches towards Odesa.
Occupants targeted rescuers and medics who arrived at the scene after the initial explosions. Later, it became known that 20 people were injured, five of whom were found to be State Emergency Service employees. One of them died.
Currently, the number of casualties and injuries continues to rise. Previously, eight deaths and over 30 injuries were reported.
Attack on Odesa: Death Toll Rises Again
The death toll from the Russian missile strike on Odesa on March 15th has risen to 16 people.
Odesa Regional Military Administration chief Oleg Kiper announced this on Telegram on Friday, March 15th.
"Another 55 people with injuries are in hospitals," he wrote.
Kiper noted that over 200 Odesa residents and guests have donated blood for the victims since the Russian attack, with about a hundred more waiting in line at reception points.
Earlier, it was announced that March 16th would be declared a day of mourning in the city and the region.
